At Darwin's Table - A Blog On Evolutionary Eating

About Darwin's Table - At Darwin's Table

This blog is about my personal experience exploring the idea of eating a diet based off of darwinian evolutionary principles. In other words, I am trying to eat foods that we evolved to eat. Humans have had approximately 100000 generations pass since the beginnings of our species, and only the last 500 of these were since the agricultural revolution.

It was at this time that foods novel to our biology were introduced into our diets such as grains. It was also during this time that humans became diseased and less healthy, which is evident in their smaller skulls, shorter stature, and more brittle bones following the introduction of these foods. We simply are not evolved to eat these foods, and should (evolutionary speaking) be eating vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats and fish.
Evidence shows that our ancestors, and todays hunter gatherers, were not plagued by the modern diseases of civilization and instead died from infectious diseases and trauma (ie breaking a leg). As a biologist myself who studies evolution I can personally back this philosophy. This blog is about my journey following these dietary principles and my occasional dabbling in the science behind it.
